Whether you prefer your tresses cropped or long, subtle or colorful, Hair Inc. is able to explore and provide valuable insight for all your hair goals. Previously, I experimented with dying an underlying lock of hair pink, and recently decided to go full pink ombré. However, I knew that in doing something as extreme as this, especially when it involves a whole lot of bleaching, I needed to get my hair done by a reputable hair salon. God forbid that I visit an ambiguous salon and my waist-length hair that I have painstakingly tended to for years ends up being burned off by inferior dye.
This is where Hair Inc. came in. Hair Inc. is the brain child of Kenneth Joseph Goh, an exceptionally gifted artist with hair as his forte. Kenneth previously spearheaded the Hair Department of Resort World Sentosa (RWS), accumulating numerous accolades with his remarkably demiurgic creations that adorned the heads of performers and celebrities. Kenneth was crowned the head designer for a myriad of events, performances and shows in RWS, most illustrious for his work during past Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Studios Singapore where his creativity was pushed to its limits and surpassed all expectations.
Hair Inc. currently has two outlets in Singapore, one located in Serangoon Gardens and another in Holland Village. I have frequented both and concluded that I prefer getting my tresses done in the salon nestled within the heart of Serangoon Gardens for its cafe-esque vibes, spacious open-floor plan and tranquil charm with natural sunlight streaming in from the full length floor-to-ceiling glass window spanning the breadth of the second-storey shophouse. One thing is for sure though - if you jio your friends down to any of these two outlets for companionship (because sitting alone for hours getting your hair dyed is boring af), you and squad will be extremely comfortable hanging out for a lengthy period of time with the plush sofas, cozy arm chairs, coffee machines, soft drinks and an assortment of teas made available to you.
Also, due to the convenience of the outlets being situated in Serangoon Gardens and Holland Village, you and your squad can simply head down to da bao meals, snacks, desserts and even alcoholic beverages from the wide array of F&B stores in the area and bring them back up to the salon to indulge in. A trip down to Hair Inc. can be likened to a chill-out session among friends during the day with munchies and drinks, just like hanging out in a cafe. I brought two male companions along who usually would rather die than be put in the detested situation of waiting around in a salon, but they were more than happy to kick back and relax on the soft sofa while the three of us happily chatted the day away with some alcoholic beverages that we bought from the vicinity and kept in the salon’s fridge.
Before we embarked on the long and laborious road down to achieving the perfect pink ombré, Kenneth and I had a little discussion, planning and strategizing the procedure. He also examined my hair to ensure that it was healthy enough to withstand bleaching without breaking or burning off in large clumps, something that is crucial to take note of. Kenneth explained that he would first have to bleach my hair to a very light blonde, incorporating a new treatment, Olaplex, into the bleaching process so that it keeps the damage at a bare minimum. The first Olaplex process – the Bond Multiplier – was added into the hair bleach prior to it being applied to my hair. Olaplex Bond Multiplier helps in rebuilding broken disulfide bonds and begins the process of preventing damage and repairing hair. So my hair was even silkier and more manageable after bleaching. The second process – the Bond Perfector – was applied after shampooing and rinsing the bleach off my hair. The Olaplex Bond Perfector continues in rebuilding and restoring any remaining broken bonds, ensuring the strongest, shiniest and healthiest hair possible.
My hair was bleached twice, and the top part of my head very quickly dyed a darker brown color before Kenneth went on to coat the bleached ends in a deep neon pink dye. After allowing the pink to thoroughly seep into each strand, my hair was washed, blow dried straight and slathered with the third Olaplex process – the Hair Perfector – as the finishing touch to provide continuous protection even as I return home. I had a vision and Kenneth successfully executed it to perfection. He managed to tame my ultra fine, easily tangled mane and turned it into lustrous locks, the color of passion, cascading like a waterfall off a steep drop down my back.
This entire procedure, taking my sweeping hair length into account, would cost $300 - $500 on average. However, I have a secret treat just for you. If you utilize Hair Inc.’s customer loyalty app, Advocado, not only will you be able to save a fortune on doing your hair, you will also be able to garner credits during each visit which can be used to offset your total bill.
